June 5, 2023 – Stellantis N.V. and leading metals recycler Galloo today announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into exclusive negotiations to form a joint venture focused on End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) recycling as part of the automaker’s continued commitment to build its circular economy activities.

Good news for local residents of Menen who drive electric cars! The electric charging stations in the staff car park opposite the head office on Wervikstraat will be publicly accessible from 7 pm to 7 am. The entrance gate will remain half-open to open the car park after office hours.

On Thursday 16 December, Pierre Vandeputte, managing director of recycling company Galloo handed over a cheque for €5,000 to the MS House in Menen. The cheque will allow the non-profit organisation to compensate for a large part of the missed income due to the corona year.

Why has the scrap-processing industry suddenly become so fire-prone? 

On Thursday 7 October, Pierre Vandeputte handed over a cheque for €50,000 to the Teledienst from Menen on behalf of recycling company Galloo. Thanks to this donation, Teledienst Menen can continue to fulfil one of its main objectives after a setback: allowing people to live at home for longer.

The 'Grensland Circular' project has had to face unexpected hurdles due to corona, but it is firmly in place at one year before its official end (31/10/2022). Within that framework, a nice partnership was recently concluded between MLS and Galloo.

Menen-based recycling company Galloo is donating €1,000 to seven youth movements in the city. With this money, the company wants to help the youth movements to recover quickly after an annus horribilis.

Preparatory works for the 'Side West' extension are almost complete. It is just a matter of waiting for final approval from government agencies, and then construction of the large shed can begin.

A new loading station was commissioned at Galloo Ropswalle. The new system - fully developed by our own engineers - allows containers to be loaded more efficiently, safely and in a more environmentally friendly way. Thanks to this new system, we can meet the ever-increasing demand for containers.

The kondirator at Galloo France (Halluin) was converted to a zerdirator in the summer of 2020. "A choice dictated by a changed market situation and ever-increasing maintenance costs," explain CEO Rik Debaere and project manager Kevin Casier. "The concept of the new machine is a combination of the best that can be found on the market, and in terms of emissions we are doing en pack better than what the environmental standards require us to do."

Galloo invested 14 million euros in a new separation plant, which separates the very smallest metals up to 0.3 mm in diameter from a poor fraction.

Roeselare's Galloo branch will move from Mandellaan to Ovenhoek 22 at the end of this year.

How are new raw materials extracted from discarded electrical and electronic appliances? More than 4,000 visitors sought (and found) an answer to this question at Galloo on Sunday 6 October.

As part of the 'I cycle to work' campaign, 77 Gallooists took their bikes to work on Thursday 25 June. Together, they accounted for more than 1,500 kilometres.

Galloo has invested in its own push barge, a type of cargo vessel pushed by a boat. The vessel will be used to transport both raw and finished materials, mainly between the Menen and Ghent branches. "We intend to use it to transport some 100,000 tonnes on an annual basis, the equivalent of 4,000 trucks," reports managing director Pierre Vandeputte. "The push barge was christened as 'Galloo I' and should become the first of our own fleet."

On Friday 7 February, Flemish minister of Economy, Innovation, Work, Social Economy Hilde Crevits visited Galloo in Menen. Galloo, headquartered in Menen, is one of the leading recycling plants of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in Western Europe.
