Galloo Harnes becomes the yard of the 21st century

In May 2025, the first sod was turned for the construction of the loading and unloading quay in Harnes.

The group’s largest investment to date will be a completely new shredder and processing site for green” scrap in Harnes, built to the latest standards (environment, efficiency) using the best available techniques in air and water treatment, sound insulation and energy management. In addition, the successful pilot project in separation techniques from Halluin will be used to produce shredder scrap with the lowest possible copper content in order to meet increasingly stringent market requirements.

The site in Harnes will process approximately 200,000 tonnes of raw materials per year. The recycled steel will be sent directly to steelworks, while the non-ferrous metals and plastics will be sent to the sites in Menen and Halluin for further sorting and recycling. The location along the Canal de la Deûle is a major asset for the sustainable transport of scrap.
