Giving a second life to old metals

Galloo’s main activity has remained unchanged since its foundation in 1939: the collection and recycling of scrap metal from factory waste, discarded consumer goods or demolition waste. Thanks to high-tech recycling techniques, these materials are given a second life as circular raw materials.

How are scrap metals recycled?

Metal recycling has been around for ages, but recycling techniques continue to evolve. Galloo constantly invests in new technologies to produce a pure circular raw material.

    Collection

With more than 40 sites in Belgium, northern France and the Netherlands, Galloo has a strong collection network. The sites are responsible for the initial phase of depollution or shredding and prepare the material for transport.

    Shredding

Homogeneous streams of iron and steel are reduced in size and cleaned for the steelworks. Heterogeneous scrap, such as discarded consumer goods, is reduced in size in a crusher or shredder.

    Recycling

Once shredding is complete, the materials continue their journey through a complex recycling process. Magnets are used to separate iron, followed by the separation of metals from non-metals. Rubber and foam are thermally valorised, while plastics are recycled at Galloo Plastics. Non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminium are recycled with advanced technology to create high-quality secondary raw materials.
