How are scrap metals recycled?
Metal recycling has been around for ages, but recycling techniques continue to evolve. Galloo constantly invests in new technologies to produce a pure circular raw material.
- 1
Collection
With more than 40 sites in Belgium, northern France and the Netherlands, Galloo has a strong collection network. The sites are responsible for the initial phase of depollution or shredding and prepare the material for transport. - 2
Shredding
Homogeneous streams of iron and steel are reduced in size and cleaned for the steelworks. Heterogeneous scrap, such as discarded consumer goods, is reduced in size in a crusher or shredder. - 3
Recycling
Once shredding is complete, the materials continue their journey through a complex recycling process. Magnets are used to separate iron, followed by the separation of metals from non-metals. Rubber and foam are thermally valorised, while plastics are recycled at Galloo Plastics. Non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminium are recycled with advanced technology to create high-quality secondary raw materials.
