How is my end of life vehicle processed?
1. In the first phase, the battery and wheels are removed. Next, a depollution phase takes place. All harmful fluids (oil, fuel, air conditioning fluid, windscreen washer fluid, coolant, etc.) will be safely removed.
2. If the vehicle still contains reusable parts, these are dismantled in the workshop. After all, reuse is even better than recycling. The car body is then crushed for efficient internal transport to the shredder.
From wreck to raw material
3. What remains of the vehicle ultimately goes through a shredder, which will crush the car into small fragments. It takes about one minute to process a scrap car into crushed scrap metal. A magnet separates all ferrous metals from the rest.
4. The final phase involves high-tech sorting of materials. Metals are separated from non-metals, and non-ferrous metals are separated from plastics using flotation techniques. Finally, the non-ferrous metals are separated from each other to return pure copper, aluminium and numerous other raw materials to the market.
