Electronics

Galloo has been recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) for many years.

In 2001, we began working closely with Recupel. Eleven years later, the group was chosen as a partner for the fifth time in a row for processing:

  • Household WEEE
    • Large household appliances, e.g. washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc.
    • CRTs, monitors, and LCD screens, e.g. television sets, audio-video equipment, etc.
    • Other household WEEE, e.g. computers and accessories, small household appliances, lighting equipment, electrical garden equipment, etc.
  • Professional WEEE
    • Large appliances, e.g. for preparing foods and cleaning
    • Computers and accessories, e.g. servers, fax machines weighing 7 kg or more, printers weighing 20 kg or more, etc.
    • Audio and video equipment, e.g. cameras weighing 3 kg or more, radio transmitters, etc.
    • Other forms of WEEE, e.g. kitchen appliances, dispensers, appliances for ironing, stitching, knitting, etc.

Every year, Galloo processes 50 per cent of all WEEE collected in Belgium, which equates to 30,000 tons of household WEEE and 250 tons of professional WEEE.

We have been working with Ecosystèmes, the French equivalent of Recupel, since 2006. After six years, Galloo was elected as a partner for recycling large and small household appliances and CRT and LCD screens.

After being collected, registered, sorted and purified in specifically created departments, the appliances are processed through the shredder and separated into ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The main plastic fractions are also recycled.

This process enables Galloo to meet the strict requirements set by the government in terms of recycling and other useful applications.

DEEE purification is dealt with by employees working for social enterprises in Belgium and France. In Wallonia we founded Formarec, a socially-oriented company that employs and provides employment integration for over 10 disabled people. This collaboration and other initiatives are complementary to Galloo’s social engagement and corporate social responsibility.
